Tracon is turning 20 years old this year! In honour of our celebration the theme of this years event is Tracon of a 1000 stories! Presentations fitting to this theme are recommended, but not mandatory! The purpose of the theme is to offer inspiration and ideas for coming up with a presentation! Traditionally, the overarching themes of Tracon are anime, manga, cosplay, role playing games, and other games overall! It is within these topics that we primarily accept programs!
By presenting a program you’ll get to share to our visitors your interests, visions and ideas about anime, manga, role playing games, cosplay, and the myriad of other topics pertaining to such interests!
In addition to just presentations, we are also searching for participating programs, such as games (i.e. board games, card games, miniature games, table-RPG’s, Live RPG’s), competitions, tournaments and workshops, along with many performative programs like music, dance, and other show! We are also always interested about new and innovative formats for programs!
As an example of the type of presentations Tracon has previously had, you can go to Kompassi and look up schedules for past events. You can also see past presentations held at Tracon from our YouTube channel! A majority of the program is in Finnish, as we have yet to have had as many English speaking presenters at the event, but you have the power to influence that! Do not let the traditional forms of presentations limit your imagination, as we are interested to hear about all new concepts of presenting!
As a presenter, you gain perks by holding a presentation, discussion program, or hosting a total of at least four hours of a game, be it RPG related or other! The perks include:
- A badge and free entry ticket for the entire weekend
- Food tickets
- Access to the Green Room
- Dead dog sauna (held immediately after the event)
- The volunteer thank you party, which is held in a later date! (R-18)
Please note. For people hosting meet ups, same perks do not apply.
Tracon has access to a large outdoor area in Sorsapuisto, where you can host all kinds of entertainment in specialized tents, as well as a large live stage, or in the park overall! Sorsapuisto is a public access area, so the Tracon Live! -stage is a fantastic place to be seen and heard!
A Guide to making a presentation
– A good presentation starts with a vision!
People aren’t interested in watching a presentation, that simply tells what occurs in the work you wish to speak of! People come to see presentations, because they are interested in the presenters’ thoughts, and well thought out opinions!
Your subject matter should be limited in a way, that you’ll be working with some interesting angle about your interest! (i.e. “The history of the Dwarves of Middle-Earth”, “Knighthood versus Shadows, the morality of Paladins and Rogues”, or “From DBZ to MHA, the many faces of shounen protagonists!”)
– Planning is part of the presentation!
You have an idea, excellent! Now it’s time to ponder, how to make it a full presentation! Can you come up with examples of what your idea consists of? Write them down and start constructing your presentation on word for example! All presentations must start somewhere, and with even a basic start, you can get right to work!
Be keen about the length of your presentation! Your presentation is preferably too short, rather than too long, which would mean that you have to cut your presentation short when your time runs out. This does not mean that leaving it too short is okay! Consider doing a practice run at home by holding the presentation by yourself, and measuring how long it takes to finish. If your presentation seems too long, you can consider if there are parts that could be condensed or be left out entirely!
– A good presentation is in the visuals!
The less text, the better! People are going to watch your presentation in hopes of visual examples! If you’re holding a presentation, there’s no need to have text that you can speak out loud within the slides you’re presenting! You can’t avoid text altogether necessarily, but it is recommended that your slides do not contain more than a handful of words!
The program slots for presentations at Tracon are 45, 75, and 105 minutes in length! Consider the length of your presentation and pick a slot accordingly!
If you are considering holding a workshop, or a game, these lengths can be exceeded.
Tracon Live stage shows should also be at least 30 minutes in length.
– No repeats!
Please note, that if you have already held the same presentation you are offering to Tracon in another convention, it will probably not be accepted in Tracon. If you wish to hold a presentation of a similar nature that you’ve previously held in Tracon, we expect a fresh, new angle!
